Earthquake Strikes India, Tremors Felt in Delhi and Other Parts of North India

On June 13, 2023, around 1:40 IST, an earthquake of a magnitude of 5.4 impacted eastern Kashmir. Just 100 kilometres far from Delhi, the earthquake's epicentre occurred in the Himachal Pradesh region, close to Mandi Town.

Apart from Mandi other north Indian cities like Chandigarh, Mohali, and Amritsar, earthquakes also came in Delhi. No damage or injuries were immediately reported.

The Indo-Australian plate, which is steadily slamming into the Eurasian plate from the north, is to blame for the earthquake. The Himalayas were created by this plate collision, which also frequently creates earthquakes in the area.

Delhi and other areas of north India are under a yellow alert from the Indian Meteorological Department because there might be aftershocks. People are asked to use caution and follow any instructions from the authorities.

• Lay down, hide beneath a piece of heavy furniture, and hang on until the shaking stops.

• Avoid going near doors, windows, and outside walls.

• You should Stop your vehicle and move to the side of the road if you are driving. Drive as long as the shaking lasts.

• Avoid using lifts.

• Check on your loved ones and your neighbours.
